Literature Text

As shimmering light touches the ground
Reflected in the stars and moon, no sound
but quiet tiptoes and laughter fine
Like music it flows and weep moonshine

Try to look, maybe try to see
The elfin folk, under the Great Oak Tree
As a streaming breeze blows gently by
Hear tinkling chatter and the leaves' quiet sigh

Pixie skips, fluttering fairy wings and happy cheer
Wood sprites and river nymphs approach with no fear
'tis the full moon, and as magic settles through the night
A glimmer and twinkle of stars as dreams take flight

The fairy folk cheer as each wish of a child floats free
But even as they smile, they wait to see
The Last Unicorn, an appearance she makes
Once every full moon, a risk she takes

Ruler of the woods and forests all around
Sworn fealty to her are the fairy folk bound
Proudly she reveals herself, a magical beast
Hunted by many but she fears not in the least

Often thought of only as a myth or legend by all
Seasons pass, but she's seen every rise and fall
of man; knowledge and powers she possess
But that which she shares, no more, no less

Unlike the phoenix who finds birth in death
A time shall come when she breathes her final breath
But long before that time shall pass
A final spell on earth shall she cast

Just as the fairy folk help her grant wishes and dreams
Just as we remember that things aren't as they always seem
Take heed the Last Unicorn, before she leaves
Each tear a pearl as for man's sin she grieves

Her presence regal, one cannot define
Loving eyes so soft and kind
A whisper and hope she grants to keep
Peace for man on earth they may reap

With a tilt of her head, blesséd be
the fairy folk who fall to their knees
And swear again their loyalty and faith
Before she leaves like a ghostly wraith

As the fog passes by, and yonder light breaks
As the sun rises and reflects in the lakes
The fairy folk creep away, but remember well
The Last Unicorn who replenishes faith and sins quell.
The things I do for teddy bears, lol. My second poem dedicated to the children's section, because I believe that fantasy can bring so much magic into a child's life and imagination.

Quick thanks to Ruth [link] for encouraging me to write this *grins*
